The first step in adopting an animal is making a trip to the shelter. Check the cats available and dogs available listings, but you might want to visit the shelter personally since new animals arrive every day. To learn more about animals available at the RPAS, call (707)584-1582.

The adoption process:

  1. When you find an animal you want to adopt, you will be asked to fill out an adopter profile.
  2. Shelter staff will talk to you about adopting an animal and answer any questions you might have. They will call your landlord if you rent your home, to make sure that type of pet is allowed.
  3. Spend some time with the animal! Make sure that the entire family feels comfortable with the animal that you have picked out.
  4. If you already own a dog and you want to adopt another one, you are required to bring in your dog to make sure that they get along. There is a big fenced in area next to the shelter where the dogs can interact.
  5. There is an adoption contract and other paperwork to complete. Adoptions stop 1/2 hr before we close so we have ample time to go over all the information and answer your questions.
  6. The adoption fee is $95.00 for cats, and $95.00 for dogs (an additional  $60.00 training deposit is required for certain dogs - training deposit is refundable with proof of completing an obedience class).
